About Dr. P
Some times we tend to make up our minds of who we think other people are most especially from the first impression. However, a person’s character can only be ascertained over a period of time and in particular situations. Hopefully, I should be able to give you an insight of who I am, what I am about and my out look of life.
My Childhood
I was brought up in a Christian home but got to understand the Christian faith in my late teenage years. I gave my life to Christ in my early twenties and have never looked back since then. Praise God!. I was once witnessed to in my early teenage years and the reason why I did not give my life then was because I was told I should not listen to the music I loved listening to then. But that has come to have a new meaning in my life now.
Playing the keyboard and programming are two things that can keep me going even without thinking of having a meal but recently I have learnt that I need to create some space for my loved ones especially my wife. At the moment we enjoy playing scrabble together amongst other things, and I’ve finally found a match in the game. I enjoy Sci-Fi movies with I-Robot topping the chart. I am obviously not as quiet as other may think I am though I do spend a lot of time on my own, I believe everyone should, once in a while anyway. I enjoy my company and I spend time thinking and listening to music.
Philosophy
My philosophy is that life is all about having healthy relationships with God and with man, to Love people and use things and not love things and use people as is often the case where people take advantage of others. Christ came to die for us all that we may have the advantage and the least we should do is do the same to our fellow humans. John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - King James VersionI am not a perfectionist as some have often remarked, but I believe anything worth doing is worth doing well. I strive to live up to my words as a man’s honour is in his words.
Bruce lee was my childhood hero and I still love his movies but that does not mean I believe in violence perhaps for self defense. I played football for my school obviously no far near the achievements of my namesake, the king of soccer. I love to watch the game, especially match of the day. I am not an ardent fan of any club but I look out for Chelsea, the manager ‘Jose Morinho’ is really good. I enjoy the game of football and I’m often amazed by the brilliance of the players, Thierry Henry, Rooney and Ronaldinho are always good to watch anytime. I also have a silver medal in boxing from light weight category; you need to be in the ring to appreciate how long a boxing bout is.
I read once in a while but definitely not as much as others think. Perhaps I am a good listener and learn from people, and only double check to clarify gray areas and doubts. If the book is too voluminous that’s a no no for me. Of recent I had to learn to read a lot in order to write my literature review, and believe me, that was torture. But thank God I’m through with the hard part now. I wish I had the zeal I had when I was much younger, it is gradually coming back now, Hurray!. I think I read most of the pacesetters they were really cool books!.
On earth, I would like to meet open minded and friendly people with a vision “going somewhere” in life. People with a sense of humour who I can learn from and be challenged by. And in eternity I want to meet Jesus.
My favorite TV programs include:
- Changing Your World Broadcast By Dr. Creflo Dollar our spiritual grandad
- Get Understanding by Pastor Ramson Mumba
- Enjoying Everyday Life by Joyce Meyers
- Word of Life Broadcast by Pastor Ricky Temple
- CSI - Crime Scene Investigation
- Match of the Day
- My Wife and Kids
The Christian TV broadcast can also be watched online on God TV. There are also archived broadcasts in each ministry. Enough spiritual food don’t you think. But be careful who you listen to, there are erring minister out there as well. My favorite bible quote is: Proverbs 8:14Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. - King James Version
Vision
My vision is to help build a strong worship team and I am working towards achieving that. Although I am studying and not spending much time practicing and learning new keyboard skills, once I am done with my degree, I am looking at taking another degree in music studying part time, subject to approval though. Married folks would understand what I mean!
These are some of the prerequisite I believe should be in place in fufilling this vision. If you have any suggestions or advice please feel free to share them with me.
- Salvation
All efforts would be futile if one is not born-again. Praise God He found me, I am saved and the righteousness of God and I enjoy being in the presence of God. - Dedication
I love one of the core values of my church, its says ‘ one can only lead to the degree to which he is willing to serve‘. If you are not faithful to another man’s course how would God give you your own. Beside, life is not worth living if you’re not busy in the body of Christ. - Financially Independence
Be diligent with my career / profession so as to provide financial security for myself and family, seed for sowing and to put the devil to shame These are the skills I believe I require to fulfil my vision. I am a working progress and perfecting these skills day by day. - Leadership Skills
Building a strong worship team involves worshippers, musicians, music directors song writers etc. Everyone with a unique gift, passion, temperament and disposition. It would require, in addition to the holy spirit, leadership skills amongst which patience and love stand out. Believe me, I’ve got a long way to go now. I was introduced to myself when I got engaged and suddenly realized I need to develop my character more. I’m working on it ….working on it… - Communication Skills
I haven’t been very vocal and more often than not a bit reserved. Coming to study in the put me in a situation where I had no choice but to learn to communicate with people from all over the world, peoples whose first languages isn’t English. I have had to deliver talks, presentation as well as teach a wide range of intellectuals from junior school to professors. It’s been like learning to swim from the deep end of the pool, but survival instincts makes you swim up to the top. - Music Skills
Believe it or not, I had to learn music theory on my own. I have always wanted to play the piano, right from my childhood days. I can remember the first time I saw a piano. I think I was about 8 years old, and it was in a neighbours house. I sometimes sneak away from home to play a few notes. The first tune I played was “London bridge is falling down“… the feeling was second to none then. But it didn’t last long … I went school to boarding school and did not have music as an option in school. My desire was rekindled 12yrs later and I made up my mind to play the keyboard. I picked up books and learnt from scratch, bit by bit. Music in the military isn’t what anyone would focus on I can assure you. It has been a slow but steady learning path, I have had my challenges and disappointments. I can’t count how many times I thought of quitting for good…but I’m still in… I would not say I attained the heights I desire but I’ve passed the half way mark and still on course. - Marital Bliss
From the few experiences I had, one is prone to sexual temptations being in the music ministry. There are more often than not more females in the choir and if not careful and focused temptations abound. Being happily married with your spouse sharing the same vision would wade off the temptations and place a warning sign to any “uncircumcised Philistine” to keep off. “He is taken, girl! …focus on the song…”
