Wow, this article made me feel very uncomfortable. The imagery used, for example, of wives as "incubators", places of "rest", "teachable and willing to learn" (in other words submissive), combined with the idea that women should assume the passive role by "positioning herself where she can be found", as well as the excerpt from "The Excellent Wife" in which the author essentially condemns feminism, really struck a nerve. I'm a Christian and a feminist. It is obvious to me that the author of "The Excellent Wife" did not fully understand the concept of feminism at the time she called herself a feminist. Feminism is not about man-hating--it is simply about equal rights for women (and today women still face unequal treatment, discrimination, and less pay for equal work, not necessarily because of men but because of the culture and history of our society, in which the Bible was interpreted in partriachal terms). As a woman, I am offended by this article and advise anyone else reading it to take Dr. P's misconceptions into consideration.
